The Search for Signs of Hawaiian Life

Just like home/h3> Michael and Marcia Shiraki of Honolulu found a reminder of home at Odaiba, a man-made island on the banks of Tokyo Bay. A passer-by snapped their photo at the Japanese franchise of Kua ‘Aina sandwich shop, the famed burger joint that originated in Haleiwa. Marcia Shiraki said this photo has special meaning to the couple because it was taken a short time before an earthquake and tsunami hit Japan on March 11 and news organizations used the island as a base from which to report on the disaster.
