Shinseki to speak at celebration for AJA recipients of Congressional Gold Medal
Veterans Affairs Secretary and retired Army Chief of Staff Gen. Eric Shinseki, who was born on Kauai, will be the guest speaker at Hawaii’s recognition Dec. 17 of the Japanese American soldiers who are recipients of the Congressional Gold Medal.
Tickets for the luncheon at the Hawai’i Convention Center are $75 for adults and $50 for children under 10. The deadline is Dec. 1. Checks should be made out to Go For Broke Association CGM; and sent to the association at P.O. Box 88234; Honolulu, HI 96830..

The original gold medal is being kept by the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C. A 3-inch bronze replica of the Congressional Gold Medal awarded collectively to the nisei, or second generation, Japanese American soldiers of the 100th Infantry Battalion, 442nd Regimental Combat Team and Military Intelligence Service is available for purchase from the U.S. Mint.
