Man accused of shooting wife to appear in court Wednesday
A 47-year-old man who allegedly shot his wife and barricaded himself in a Koloa home Sunday night is scheduled to make his initial appearance in Kauai District Court Wednesday afternoon, the Kauai County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office said.
Dominador Padua was being held on $516,000 bail after being charged with second-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault and firearms violations on Monday.
Police say he shot his 42-year-old wife in the leg at about 8:19 p.m. Sunday and that she escaped the home through a bedroom window.
Medics took her to a hospital but her condition was not known Monday.
Police closed off the area around the Olona Street home and evacuated neighbors.
The couple’s 14-year-old and 17-year-old children voluntarily remained in the with their father until police were able to negotiate their release at about 9:50 p.m.

Neither of them was injured.
Police convinced Padua to surrender at 10:30 p.m. Sunday.
Police recovered a .38 caliber revolver from the residence.
