Shark warning signs were taken down this morning after a helicopter flyover from Kailua-Kona to Keahou Bay saw no sign of a large shark.

A woman reported being knocked off her paddleboard yesterday by a large shark, which also took a bite out of the board, the Big Island Fire Department said.

The woman was paddleboarding about 20 feet offshore at midday yesterday at Lyman’s Beach in Kailua-Kona when the shark knocked her off the paddleboard, officials said.

 The woman was not injured in the attack, but cut her finger as she was getting out of the water onto some rocks.

The Fire Department helicopter flew over the area after the incident, but saw no sign of a shark. Police and the Department of Land and Natural Resources posted warning signs yesterday afternoon, but did not close the beach.
