Waipahu man, 86, dies following hit-and-run crash
Police are looking for a dark-colored pickup truck involved in a hit-and-run accident that fatally injured an 86-year-old male pedestrian early this morning in Waipahu.
Police said a Waipahu man was crossing makai in a marked crosswalk at Awamoku Street at about 2:37 a.m. when the truck hit him and kept going. A witness provided traffic investigators with a description of the truck, but did not get a license plate number.
The man went to the hospital in critical condition. He was pronounced dead at 7:03 a.m.
Police closed the Waianae-bound lanes of the highway for a few hours as they investigated the crash.
Police are seeking information or witnesses to the incident.
It was the 25th traffic fatality on Oahu this year, the same number as at this time last year.
