State library offers 50,000 e-book titles
Readers with Kindle eBooks can now access and download nearly 50,000 titles from the Hawaii State Public Library system’s website, thanks to Amazon and OverDrive, the library’s primary provider of e-books and digital audiobooks.
"With the recent launching of Amazon’s new Kindle Fire, the demand for e-books is anticipated to increase, and we are expanding the size, depth and breadth of our collection to meet this demand," State Librarian Richard Burns said.
Patrons with e-book readers can browse the library’s e-book collection at www.librarieshawaii.org; click on "EBooks, Audio-books and Music," then access hawaii.lib.overdrive.com.
Burns said e-books are the fastest-growing segment of the library’s total circulation.
With Kindle compatibility, circulation is expected to increase by more than 30 percent this year, to more than 100,000.
Library patrons with a valid library card may borrow up to 10 e-books free for up to three weeks without going to the library or incurring overdue charges.
