Search for scholar enters third day
Fire and police crews will resume a search tomorrow for the third and final day in Mokuleia for a missing 40-year-old Norwegian professor who disappeared Saturday while on a trail run at Peacock Flats.
Are Hjorungnes, a visiting University of Oslo professor who has been in Hawaii since July as a researcher at the University of Hawaii, was last seen at 9:45 a.m. Saturday running with a group known as HURT (Hawaiian Ultra Running Team). A woman who was running with them said they had stopped almost at the top of the ridge when he and another runner took off ahead of the group and he took a wrong turn.
Man charged in woman’s stabbing
Honolulu police have charged a 51-year-old Kapolei man with stabbing his 58-year-old girlfriend Sunday night at his home.
Police said the couple got into an argument at a home on Olani Street in Ko Olina at about 8:25 p.m. when the man allegedly stabbed his girlfriend several times in the chest. The woman was taken in serious condition to the Queen’s Medical Center.
Salvador Sierra was charged last night with second-degree attempted murder. He is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail.

Man charged in shooting; victim stable
Hawaii County police have charged a Waimea man who was arrested Friday after a shooting in which a man was wounded.

Evan Chong, 23, was charged with second-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault and first-degree reckless endangering. He was being held at the Kona police cellblock in lieu of $57,000 bail. Detectives from the Area II Criminal Investigation Section charged him Saturday afternoon.
South Kohala patrol officers responded at 3:19 a.m. Friday to a report of a shooting at a home on Alaneo Street in Waimea. While en route, officers learned that a man was at North Hawaii Community Hospital with a gunshot wound to one of his legs.
The victim remained hospitalized yesterday in stable condition, police said.
