UH eighth at WAC track
Hawaii picked up two more medals to close the Western Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships yesterday at Clarence T.C. Ching Field.
UH senior Ashley Aitken won silver in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:29.22, becoming the first UH athlete to medal in the event since 2004. She also placed seventh in the 800 meters.
Madara Apine took bronze in the triple jump at 40 feet, 2.25 inches, giving the Rainbow Wahine a total of five medals in the meet (two gold, two silver, one bronze).
Louisiana Tech won its seventh-straight women’s team title with 152 points, followed by Utah State with 138. UH finished eighth with 65.5 points.
Utah State captured its third consecutive men’s championship with 180 points. Boise State was second with 169.33 points.
UH freshman Kellsey Trimble, above, placed eighth in the javelin in her first WAC championship.
