Firefighters assist people in motorboat with engine problems
A 19-foot powerboat that ran into engine trouble was steered into the Keehi Lagoon channel by a Honolulu Fire Department rescue boat Thursday afternoon, averting a collision with a reef.
A man and woman aboard the powerboat sustained cuts to their feet as they tried to keep the boat off the reef, but otherwise were not injured, Honolulu fire Capt. Terry Seelig said.
HFD’s 24-foot rescue boat responded to the call at 1:06 p.m. and pulled the powerboat to safety by 2:16, Seelig said.
