Assault complaint withdrawn against Aiea football coach
A man has recanted his identification of Aiea High School head football coach Wendell Say as the person who assaulted him on Oct. 9, Say’s lawyer said today.
The alleged victim withdrew his complaint against Say, police spokeswoman Michelle Yu said.
Say said Thursday he had an alibi for the time of the alleged beating and that he was wrongly identified as an assailant.
His attorney, Lyle Hosoda, said this afternoon that he was contacted by the police detective investigating the allegations against Say, and that the 35-year-old skateboarder has withdrawn his complaint against Say.
The detective said the man was reinterviewed and explained he had mistakenly identified Say, Hosoda said.
Hosoda said the detective told him the police department will close its file on the matter.

The case stems from a confrontation Oct. 9 between men skateboarding on the school campus and football coaches, who asked them to leave. That resulted in the assault of up to two skateboarders at 6:15 p.m. at the 7-Eleven and nearby Aiea Bowl.
