Wahine volleyball team beats Fresno State in four

The Hawaii volleyball team extended its winning streak to 18 with a four-set road victory over Fresno State today.

Rainbow Wahine freshman Jane Croson put down a match-high 17 kills and senior Kanani Danielson had 14 in UH’s 25-20, 25-18, 23-25, 25-18 win at the SaveMart Center.

Seventh-ranked UH?(23-1, 11-0 Western Athletic Conference) improved to 51-0 in the all-time series with Fresno State (10-12, 4-5) with the win.

Chanteal Satele had nine kills and Emily Hartong added eight for the Wahine, who hit .316 as a team. Brittany Hewitt had eight kills and was in on seven blocks. Danielson hit .308 with 16 digs.

Korrin Wild led Fresno State with 15 kills, but hit .098.

The Wahine hit .405 in the first set with Hewitt and Satele both putting down five kills in eight attempts each.

The teams traded the lead early in the second set and after a UH service error tied it at 17-17, Wahine then went on an 8-1 run to close it out. Hewitt and Satele teamed on three blocks in the run, the last coming on set point.

UH trailed 21-19 in the third set before tying it on kills by Danielson and Croson. Following a Fresno State timeout, the Bulldogs got a kill by Wild but UH?pushed ahead on a kill by Croson and a Fresno State hitting error.

A Fresno State block followed by a kill by Macu Murdock off a UH overpass gave the Bulldogs set point and Murdock’s kill gave Fresno State its 11th set win in the all-time series with UH.

Hawaii took control early in the fourth set and led 24-14 when Fresno State fought off four match points before Hewitt ended the match with her eighth kill.
