Ricketts named WAC pitcher of week
Hawaii junior Stephanie Ricketts’ strong finish to the regular season earned her the Western Athletic Conference pitcher of the week award yesterday.
Ricketts picked up her second award of the season and seventh of her career after holding San Jose State to one run and seven hits in two complete-game wins against San Jose State. She posted her ninth shutout of the season and allowed two hits in an 8-0 win in the series opener last Friday. She then closed the regular season by striking out eight in UH’s 3-1 win on Saturday.
Ricketts’ 13 strikeouts in the series moved her within two of UH’s career record of 585 held by Brooke Wilkins.
The Rainbow Wahine (36-16, 14-7 WAC) open defense of their WAC tournament title tomorrow against Utah State in Fresno, Calif. The game is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Hawaii time.
