Man charged in attempted strangling
A 39-year-old Ala Moana man was charged yesterday in the attempted strangulation of his 32-year-old girlfriend, who is pregnant with his child.
Police said that on April 24, Michael Nale got into an argument with the woman and allegedly punched her in the eye. He then used both hands and allegedly tried to strangle her, impeding her breathing, police said. He then allegedly put her in a bear hug and tried to squeeze her stomach, allegedly attempting to hurt the fetus, police said.
Police said Nale turned himself in at 2:30 a.m. yesterday and was charged with one count each of felony and misdemeanor abuse of a family or household member. He was being held on $25,000 bail.
Man allegedly attacks police officer
A 32-year-old man was in custody after he allegedly assaulted a police officer Sunday afternoon.
Honolulu Police Department patrol officers were sent to Waikiki to respond to an argument complaint. The officers directed the suspect to leave, but before they could escort him away, the suspect struck one of the officers, police said.
The man was arrested for first-degree assault on a law enforcement officer.

State Hospital staff captures escapee
A 46-year-old, court-committed Hawaii State Hospital patient was caught yesterday morning after escaping.
Hospital staff caught him and returned him to the hospital. Police arrested the man at 10:50 a.m. for second-degree escape.
