Hawaii to get 46 new 7-Eleven locations
7-Eleven Hawaii announced that it is hoping to open 46 more stores in the state over the next five years.
There will be nearly twice as many 7-Eleven locations across Hawaii over the next five years, if all goes according to planned.

The local corporation that operates the 54 convenience stores across Oahu, Maui, Kauai and the Big Island is preparing to add 46 new locations, 7-Eleven Hawaii president and CEO Greg Hanna said Monday. The new locations will add about 750 new jobs to the current 870 employees, he said.
Seven-Eleven Japan Co. Ltd., owns the trademark and licenses for the 41,000 locations worldwide. Most U.S. locations are franchised, Hanna said, while the Aloha state’s locations are under the Hawaii corporation.
Unique to Hawaii are the local snack food offerings including musubi — rice and meat such as hot dogs, chicken or Spam luncheon meat wrapped in dried seaweed — and manapua, a steamed bun filled with pork or chicken. Other local items include shumai dumplings and bento boxes.
Those local food items were introduced in 1995, Hanna said.
"It’s a good time for 7-Eleven," he said. "The local customers appreciate our business. We’ve found a niche here in Hawaii."
The 24-hour store’s first Hawaii location was in the Kaimuki neighborhood of Honolulu in 1978.
Today, most of the locations are in Honolulu.
The stores date back to the 1920s with the Southland Ice Co. in Texas. In 1947, the stores were renamed for their hours of operation, 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.
