Driver dies when car overturns in lava field
A traffic accident claimed the life of a woman in Milolii early Sunday. Hawaii County firefighters responded to a report of a crash at the end of Milolii Road just after midnight.
Firefighters said a sport utility vehicle overturned in a lava field about 20 yards off the road. The woman, in her mid-30s or early 40s, was ejected from the vehicle and was found dead at the scene. Her body was about 25 feet from the overturned vehicle, which had apparently been involved in a single-vehicle crash, firefighters said.
Boy arrested in alleged robbery, assault
Police arrested a 15-year-old boy for allegedly stealing a man’s wallet early Sunday during a gang assault in Waikiki.
Police said the victim, a 35-year-old man, was walking along Kuhio Avenue around 2:10 a.m. when three males approached him and assaulted him. Witnesses told police that the 15-year-old boy grabbed the man’s wallet from his pants before he and the other suspects fled down Kapuni Street. The boy was located nearby and arrested for second-degree robbery.
The victim was taken to the Queen’s Medical Center in serious but stable condition.
