Aloha Stadium officials said there will be stepped-up enforcement of one-stall-per vehicle parking regulations at the University of Hawaii’s homecoming football game Saturday.
Stadium manager Scott Chan told the stadium authority that police officers have been asked to issue citations to fans who abuse the regulation.
"We’ve been doing the best we can to enforce that; unfortunately, it has come to a point where they (fans) are getting pretty angry and they have every right to park in a stall they have paid for or have been issued a permit for," Chan said.
He said patrons who have tried to move into stalls that have been taken by tailgate party overflows have complained of intimidation.
"We get complaints that when they come back out some of their cars have been damaged," Chan said. "We just need to make sure that we provide everybody the opportunity to have a pleasant experience."
Aloha Stadium’s supply of approximately 8,000 parking stalls can be exhausted when more than 30,000 fans show up. About 5,000 stalls are available for game-day sale at $5 each. UH controls another 2,900, which it sells to boosters and season-ticket holders.
Stadium spokeswoman Lois Manin said, "We are going to give them an opportunity to comply. If they choose not to do so after two warnings — one when they come through the gate on a flyer and, two, when they get approached (by security) — there is not a choice but to cite them."
