An $11,000 reward is being offered for information on the person or people who killed a 4-year-old goat, Kaitlyn, at a dairy on Kauai.

At about 2:30 p.m. Friday, Louisa Wooton, co-owner of Kauai Kunana Dairy, went to check on the goats when she discovered Kaitlyn butchered in a 10-acre pasture near Moloaa. Her organs were left behind, and her collar was found hanging on part of the 5-foot barbed-electrical wire fence that surrounds the pasture.

“I couldn’t even wrap my brain around what happened,” Wooton said.

The Wootons believe the killing happened sometime between sunset on Thursday and sunrise Friday. They suspect Kaitlyn was killed for food.

Left behind was a pair of blue-and-white sunglasses, three unspent shotgun shells and a Winchester hunting knife. Police recovered the items and are conducting an investigation.

Kaitlyn was due to give birth in two weeks to two kids, who also died in the butchering. She generated $7,000 annually for the dairy in milk and cheese sales.

Kaitlyn was among 60 goats that are raised from birth by the Wootons.
