Give your home, office cubicle or costume party the proper Halloween treatment with festive homemade decorations and party favors.
Joy Shimabukuro, host of OC16’s "The Joy of Crafting," suggests recycling yogurt containers to make a string of spooky ghosts using black and white paint. Poke a hole on the sides of each container and thread a string through them to hang over a doorway.
Other popular Halloween crafts include treat wrappers and paper items. "People seem to be using lots of paper punches and cardstock for card making and favor-treat making and not necessarily for scrapbooking," she said. "Adults are making things for the kids, but also for friends and co-workers."
Recycled materials always come in handy when embellishing projects, Shimabukuro added. Ribbons, buttons, old puzzle and game pieces and costume jewelry are among the treasures that can help personalize items. "People always appreciate homemade gifts," she said.
FRANKIE TREAT PAIL
Supplies and tools needed:
1 miniature clear pail
2 3/4 x 9 1/2-inch green glitter paper
1 1/2 x 9 1/2-inch black glitter paper
2 x 3-inch black glitter paper
2 x 2-inch white cardstock
1/4-inch double-stick tape
Glue dots
Sharp scissors
1-inch circle punch
3/4-inch circle punch
Mega scallop heart punch
Note: If punches are not available, pieces can be cut by hand, using scissors.
Take the longer black glitter paper and trim one edge into a free-form zigzag border for hair. Place alongside one edge of the green glitter paper and adhere with double-stick tape. Using the 1-inch circle punch, cut out two circles from the white cardstock. Using the 3/4-inch circle punch, cut out two circles from the black glitter paper. Use glue dots to adhere black circles onto the white ones for eyes. Place eyes under the hair in the center of the green strip and attach with double-stick tape. With the scallop heart punch, punch just one side of the heart from black glitter paper. Move the punch over a little and punch again, creating a mouth. Place the mouth below the eyes and adhere with double-stick tape. Roll the green glitter paper up and place into the clear pail. Center the face between the handles. You can pierce the ends of the handles into the top of the green paper to keep it in place. Fill pail with treats.

Using the double-stick tape, adhere the strips to the top and bottom edges of the orange cardstock. Place the brownie in a clear treat bag and tape closed. Wrap the decorated strip around the packaged brownie, overlapping the edges on the back. Tape overlapped edges together to secure.

These are the toppers. Fill the candy stick bag with candies and seal. Place the top of the filled candy stick bag in between the two toppers and tape together.
