All Hawaii International Film Festival screenings are at Dole Cannery Stadium 18:
» "Knots" (6:30 p.m., U.S., Made in Hawaii): Locally born actor-screenwriter Kimberly-Rose Wolter returned home to make an independent film about a woman and her three daughters who own a wedding consultant business but unfortunately can’t get their own kapakahi (askew) love lives in order.
» "The Swell Season" (7 p.m., U.S., Sound x Vision): In 2006, singer-songwriters Glen Hansard and Marketa Inglova played themselves in the film "Once," which earned them two Academy Awards for their musical collaboration. As their fictional romance blurred with reality, they fell in love, recorded an album and embarked on a world tour. Filmed over a two-year period, the documentary shows how their relationship fractures in the face of life on the road and personal tragedy.
» "The Artist" (8:30 p.m., France, Eurocinema Hawaii): One of the more acclaimed international films of the year, it’s a stylized and charming love letter to the Silent Age dramas of 1920s Hollywood, shot in black-and-white and without dialogue, and stars Jean Dujardin and Bérénice Bejo in award-worthy performances as two actors going in opposite directions in their careers.
» "The Karate Kid II" (9 p.m., U.S., Made in Hawaii): Actor Tamlyn Tomita will attend this 25th-anniversary screening of the sequel to the 1984 smash hit starring Ralph Macchio and the late Noriyuki "Pat" Morita. Picking up where the first film left off, the plot finds the two making an emergency trip to Okinawa (played by Hawaii), where Mr. Miyagi’s father is dying.
