Hawaii County police look for witnesses to fatal traffic crash
Big Island police are seeking witnesses to a traffic accident that killed a pedestrian Sept. 14.
Greg Rosario Gregorio, 84, of Kealakekua died from injuries he sustained in the crash on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 11) south of the 112-mile marker in Kealakekua.
Kona patrol officers determined that Gregorio was crossing Route 11 in the mauka direction when he was hit by a southbound GMC van driven by a 24-year-old Ocean View man. Police were notified of the accident at 6:40 p.m.
Gregorio was not in a crosswalk.
Fire Department personnel took him to Kona Community Hospital, where he died Sept. 21.
The driver of the van was not injured.
