2 men arrested in theft of ATM from Kauai shopping center
Two men have been arrested for allegedly stealing an automated teller machine from Anchor Cove Shopping Center on Kauai, police said Tuesday.
Joseph Rapozo III of Anahola was charged with first-degree robbery in connection with the theft on Sept. 26.
Police also arrested a 48-year-old Kapaa man Monday for first-degree robbery relating to the ATM theft. He is currently being held at a police cellblock in lieu of $30,000. Charges are pending.
Rapozo, 26, was arrested three days after the theft. He was also charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm, possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting arrest, second-degree assault of a police officer and second-degree promotion of a dangerous drug. Rapozo is being held at Kauai Community Correctional Center in lieu of $69,000 bail.
Three years ago, Kauai police were investigating the theft of standalone ATMs that were privately owned and not connected to major banks in Hawaii.
