Rams select Salas, Panthers pick Pilares in NFL Draft
Two former University of Hawaii receivers were selected today in the third day of the NFL Draft.
Greg Salas was selected by the St. Louis Rams in the fourth round and Kealoha Pilares was picked by the Carolina Panthers in the fifth.
Yesterday, former UH running back Alex Green was taken by the Green Bay Packers in the third round.
The 6-foot-1, 210-pound Salas, chosen with the 112th overall selection on Saturday, had a very productive senior season with 119 receptions for 1,889 yards and 14 touchdowns. He topped 100 receptions each of the last two seasons and with 285 career receptions is third on the WAC career list.
Earlier, the Rams selected another wide receiver from the Western Athletic Conference in Austin Pettis of Boise State.
The annual NFL Draft, which was moved into primetime TV last year, held its first round on Thursday and second and third rounds yesterday.
