MPI ends Punahou reign as state champion

Travis Garcia-Perreira pitched a three-hitter and Marcus Doi hit two homers and drove in five runs in his first two at-bats as Mid-Pacific beat Punahou 8-0 at MPI field today, ending the reign of the defending seven-time state champion Buffanblu.

The victory clinched a state berth for the Owls (13-3), who are in second place in the Interscholastic League of Honolulu behind Saint Louis (14-1).

Punahou is 10-6 with two games left to play against MPI.

And with the ILH receiving only two berths in the 12-team state tournament, it means the Buffanblu will be left out of the tournament.

Doi hit a three-run homer in the first as Mid-Pacific jumped to a 4-0 lead. Doi then smacked a two-run shot in the second.
