‘Woodshow’ shows off winners

Ricardo Vasquez won "Best of Show" for the second year in a row at the Hawaii Forest Industry Association’s "Hawaii’s Wood­show," closing today at the Hono­lulu Academy of Arts Academy Art Center at Linekona. Vasquez’s masterpiece was a koa and mango table titled "One."

Awards of Excellence went to R.W. Rollo Scheu­ren­brand for an acoustic guitarand Alan Wilkinson for an occasional table.

First Place Furniture went to Jarred Yates for "Dream’s Gate"; First Place Musical Instrument went to David Gomes for "Kanani"; First Place Novice went to Richard Willson for "Jewelry Box"; First Place Sculpture went to Michael Patrick Smith for "Beyond the Reef"; First Place Turning went to Aaron Hammer for "On the Cusp"; and Honorable Mentions went to Francisco Clementefor "Destiny," to Edwin Ikedafor "Rapture," to Michael Patrick Smithfor "Leather Blossom," to Masako Schwalbenitzfor "Split Swirl End Table" and to Tak Yoshinofor "Music Stand Kent Award."

The Kent Award for most promising first-time entrant went to Richard Willsonfor "Jewelry Box," and the Skolmen Award, for promotion of woods from lesser-known, non-native trees, went to Loren Wilson for "Cradle."
