Comfort, safety added to criteria for top green cars

Consumer sentiment about gas prices and fuel economy, as well as editors’ sentiment about driving enjoyment, formed the basis for the Kelley Blue Book Top 10 Green Cars of 2011 list.

Editors considered more than straightforward fuel efficiency in compiling the list. To be considered for inclusion, vehicles were required to offer carbon dioxide emissions superior to the bulk of vehicles in their class and also had to provide safety, "creature comforts and driving enjoyment," according to kbb.com.
