BASEBALL

>> Cal State East Bay sophomore Zachary Wong (Kaiser ’09) allowed four hits and three runs in four innings to earn his first win of the season in a 5-3 win over Sonoma State yesterday. Wong walked three and struck out four.

>> Northwestern junior Paul Snieder (Punahou ’08) went 2-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI and threw a scoreless ninth inning to earn the save in a 9-8 victory over Penn State on Sunday. Snieder leads the Wildcats in hitting with a .365 average, nine doubles, three homers and 25 RBIs.

>> Cal State Northridge senior Ridge Carpenter (Kalani ’07) led off the series finale with a solo home run to help the Matadors defeat Cal State Bakersfield 2-1 on Sunday. Freshman right-hander Harley Holt (Kamehameha ’10) didn’t allow a run in 21⁄3 innings of a 15-5 loss in the opener Friday, allowing three hits and one walk with two strikeouts.

>> Loyola Marymount sophomore center fielder Zac Fujimoto (Maryknoll ’08) finished 5-for-11 with two doubles and an RBI in a three-game sweep of Santa Clara over the weekend.

>> UNLV junior Danny Higa (Saint Louis ’08) finished 6-for-15 with two doubles, a triple, four runs and three RBIs as the Rebels took three of four games against Sacred Heart over the weekend.

>> Nevada outfielder Waylen Sing-Chow (Kamehameha ’07) was 1-for-3 with three runs scored in the final two games of a series against Seattle on Saturday and Sunday. The Wolf Pack won both games.

>> Kansas left-hander Wally Marciel (‘Iolani ’06) tossed two scoreless innings of relief and Kaiana Eldredge (Punahou ’10) doubled in a 4-2 loss to Nebraska on Saturday.

>> Southern Utah junior Mitchell Kauweloa (Kamehameha ’08) went 5-for-14 with a double, four runs and four RBIs as the Thunderbirds split a four-game series with North Dakota State. Freshman Chris Chung (Saint Louis ’10) picked up the win in the opener, allowing two earned runs in 81⁄3 innings on eight hits with two walks and seven strikeouts. Third baseman Justin Neuhart (Molokai ’07) went 3-for-12 with a double, two runs and two RBIs in the series.

>> Colorado School of Mines senior Nick Wong (Roosevelt ’07) finished 5-for-14 with a double, three runs scored and two stolen bases as the Orediggers lost three of four to Regis University over the weekend.

>> Hartnell College freshman Kyle Watase (Saint Louis ’10) hit a three-run homer and finished with three hits in a 9-1 win over Mission College last Tuesday. Catcher Chris Liu-Saguid (Moanalua ’09) added two hits for the Panthers.

>> Lower Columbia College sophomore Ben McQuown (Waianae ’09) is hitting .458 with 12 runs scored in 48 at-bats for the Red Devils. McQuown pulled his hamstring early in the season, but has bounced back to lead the team in hitting, slugging and on-base percentage.

BOXING

>> UNLV junior Boston Salmon (Waianae ’08) came home to win the 152-pound weight class at the Hawaii State Regional Championships held April 2-3. Salmon will represent Hawaii at the 2011 USA Boxing National Championships held June 19-26 in Colorado Springs.

MEN’S GOLF

>> Pacific (Ore.) senior Max Bonk (Hawaii Prep ’07) was named the Northwest Conference men’s golf student-athlete of the week for the third time in four weeks after winning the Whitman Invitational last weekend. Bonk finished two strokes clear of the field to win his eighth event of the season. Bonk has an 18-hole stroke average of 72.47 this year and has finished in the top 5 in every tournament he’s played.

>> Oregon State freshman David Fink (‘Iolani ’09) finished in a tie for 57th place at 10-over 220 at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic last Tuesday.

WOMEN’S GOLF

>> Pacific (Ore.) senior Valerie Kitamori (Waiakea ’07) tied for sixth at 11-over 83 in the one-day Whitman Invitational on Sunday.

>> James Madison junior Nicole Sakamoto (Kalani ’08) finished in sole possession of 11th place at 12-over 156 in the rain-shortened UNC Wilmington Lady Seahawk Classic that ended last Tuesday.

SOFTBALL

>> Mississippi State outfielder Kaili Smith (Kapolei ’08) went 2-for-4 with an RBI in a 5-1 win over Mississippi Valley State yesterday. Smith is hitting .339 with two homers, 21 RBIs and 26 runs scored.

>> Eastern Kentucky senior Shyenne Hussey (Kailua ’06) had three hits in three losses against Eastern Illinois over the weekend.

>> Angelo State junior DeeshanaLynn Tafiti (Waimea ’08) hit a solo home run in a doubleheader split against St. Edward’s yesterday. Elsamartina Apo (Waipahu ’08) singled and scored a run for the Rambelles.

>> Southern Oregon sophomore Rayna Strom-Okimoto (Aiea ’09) went 3-for-3 with a run and an RBI in an 8-6 loss to Concordia (Calif.) on Friday. Strom-Okimoto finished 5-for-13 with two RBIs in four games over the weekend.

MEN’S TENNIS

>> Pacific (Ore.) senior Michael Okada (Waiakea ’07) won both his singles and doubles matches to help the Boxers beat Lewis & Clark on Saturday and clinch fourth place in the Northwest Conference. Okada teamed with Scott Kawamura (Aiea ’08) in the No. 1 doubles flight and sophomore Kolin Wong (Konawaena ’09) won his No. 3 doubles match.

WOMEN’S TENNIS

>> Cal State Northridge senior Brooke Doane (Kamehameha ’07) won her fifth straight singles match in straight sets in the No. 1 position in a 5-2 loss to UC Irvine on Saturday. Doane also won her doubles match and improved to 10-10 this season in singles.

>> DePauw (Ill.) senior Janelle Arita (Punahou ’07) won all three of her No. 1 singles matches and was 1-2 in No. 1 doubles for the Tigers, who lost two of three matches over the weekend.

>> Claremont-Mudd-Scripps sophomore Kristin Lim (Punahou ’09) won her No. 1 singles match to lead the Athenas to a 6-3 victory over Redlands (Calif.) on Saturday. Lim also won in No. 1 doubles, beating a Redlands duo that included senior Sara Yoshinaga (‘Iolani ’07). Yoshinaga won her singles match in the No. 3 position.

>> Pacific (Ore.) senior Stephanie Velligas (Kamehameha ’07) closed out her collegiate career with a win in the No. 5 singles position as the Boxers dropped a match to Lewis & Clark 5-4 on Sunday. Junior Traci Mo (Kapolei ’08) and freshman Kelsey Trujillo (Sacred Hearts ’10) won the Boxers’ only doubles match and Trujillo and Megan Yoshimoto (Mililani ’08) each won singles matches.

WOMEN’S TRACK & FIELD

>> Dartmouth sophomore Joy Piotrowski (Punahou ’09) finished fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 10.39 meters and eighth in the long jump with a distance of 4.87 meters at the New Hampshire Wildcat Invitational on Saturday.

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL

>> Southern California senior Riley McKibbin (Punahou ’07) had 56 assists, freshman Henry Cassiday (Punahou ’10) had a team-high 13 digs and outside hitter Tri Bourne (Academy of the Pacific ’07) hit .316 with eight kills, five digs and an ace in a five-set loss to Hawaii on Friday at the Stan Sheriff Center. McKibbin had 43 assists, seven digs and two aces and Bourne had eight kills, four assists, five digs and two aces as the Trojans bounced back with a sweep of the Warriors on Saturday.

>> Stanford senior Spencer McLachlin (Punahou ’07) led a balanced Cardinal attack with 10 kills and junior Brad Lawson (‘Iolani ’08) had 12 digs, nine kills and four block assists in a sweep of UCLA on Saturday that clinched home-court advantage in the first round of the MPSF tournament. Erik Shoji (Punahou ’08) added seven digs and Jordan Inafuku (Kamehameha ’07) had two for the Cardinal.

>> Long Beach State freshman Taylor Crabb (Punahou ’10) posted his second consecutive double-double, had 13 kills and tied his career high with 12 digs to help the 49ers beat UC San Diego in four sets on Saturday.

>> Brigham Young junior middle blocker Futi Tavana (Kauai ’05) had six kills, three digs and three block assists in a sweep of Pepperdine on Saturday.

>> Cal State Northridge senior Kaleo Baxter (Kauai ’05) had a team-high seven digs in his final regular-season match and Danny Rodrick (Kapaa ’07) had 15 assists and six digs in a three-set loss to UC Irvine on Saturday.

WOMEN’S WATER POLO

>> Siena (N.Y.) senior Nicole Hagi (Kapolei ’07) scored two goals as the Saints made history on senior day, defeating Marist 7-6 for the first time in 25 meetings all-time between the two schools.

>> Redlands (Calif.) sophomore driver Moana Tuipulotu (Lahainaluna ’09) scored a team-high four goals in a 14-7 victory over Chapman on Saturday.

>> Occidental (Calif.) sophomore Nanea Fujiyama (Kamehameha ’09) scored twice and Karie Nickle (Kamehameha ’07) added a goal in a 16-5 win over La Verne (Calif.) on Saturday.
