SBA makes low-interest loans available for Maui County tsunami victims
The U.S. Small Business Administration is providing low-interest disaster loans to private individuals, businesses and nonprofits in Maui County who suffered from damage caused by the March 11 tsunami.
Initially only Hawaii County qualified for disaster loans under the administration’s guidelines.
But Gov. Neil Abercrombie said in a statement Tuesday he asked the Small Business Administration to add Maui based on additional damage assessments conducted by officials from the Small Business Administration, state Civil Defense, and the American Red Cross.
Separately, the Federal Emergency Management Agency said Tuesday the federal government was making disaster aid available to Hawaii.
The announcement came several days after President Barack Obama signed a disaster declaration for parts of Hawaii damaged by the waves.
