Rainbows sweep Hornets

Blair Walters got pinch hitter A.J. Nunez to fly out to center with the bases loaded to help Hawaii complete a four-game sweep of Sacramento State with a 3-2 victory on Sunday afternoon at Les Murakami Stadium.

The sweep is Hawaii’s first in Western Athletic Conference play since 2006. The Rainbows (18-14 overall) are 4-0 in the WAC for the first time under head coach Mike Trapasso.

Zack Swasey had three of UH’s four hits, including a two-out, two-run single in the first.

Gallagher (4-1) allowed four hits in seven innings with one walk and five strikeouts. Randy Yard tossed a perfect eighth inningand Linsky worked out of trouble in the ninth for his sixth save.

Kolten Wong walked twice and scored both times, stealing two bases in the ninth before Jeff Van Doornum’s two-out single gave UH a 3-0 lead.

UH returns to the field on Friday to host the first of four games against Louisiana Tech.
