Wie finishes sixth at Kraft Nabisco Championship
RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif.>> Hawaii’s Michelle Wie started the final round of the LPGA’s first major in fourth place and finished in sixth today, shooting a 3-over-par 75 at the Kraft Nabisco Championship.
Wie was alone in third heading into the final hole at Mission Hills Country Club. Her drive veered right and the ball imbedded just below the lip in the fairway bunker. That led to her only double bogey of the week and dropped her to 3-under 285 for the tournament.
American Stacy Lewis won the 40th anniversary of the Kraft Nabisco, shooting a final-round 69 to beat Yani Tseng by three shots. Lewis finished at 13-under 275.
Tseng, the defending champion and top-ranked player in the world, led Lewis by two strokes going into the final day. She shot 75, bogeying the 16th and 17th.
It is Wie’s third Top-10 finish in four starts this year. The Stanford senior starts her spring quarter Tuesday. Her prize money pushed her over $2 million in winnings since she became a member in 2009.
