BYUH Seasiders do Hawaii proud

Brigham Young University-Hawaii came so close to pulling off a huge upset and taking the NCAA Division II national basketball championship. Alas, the second-ranked Bellarmine Knights of Louisville, Ky., won the nail-biting title game, 71-68, over the unranked Seasiders at Springfield, Mass.

"We kept fighting until the end," BYUH Coach Ken Wagner lamented. Kudos to Jet Chang, left, who scored 100 points in the three games at the playoffs and was the named the most outstanding player of the tournament, the first time since 1998 that a player from the losing team earned the honor.

Awkward? Just a little bit?

Marc Alexander, the state homelessness coordinator who is now classified as an "inactive priest," says he’s not worried. But surely there will be a little squirming tonight at St. John Vianney Catholic Church maybe by a few parishioners when, a few months after he suddenly left the active ministry, he attends the Kailua church’s town-hall meeting on homelessness.

St. John’s is where Alexander was ordained some 25 years ago, where he once served as associate pastor before moving up the ladder to the No. 2 post, vicar general for the Honolulu diocese. Oh, to be a fly on the wall …
