Former Vegas nightclub VIP host guilty in tax case
LAS VEGAS >> A top Internal Revenue Service agent in Nevada says a former Las Vegas Strip nightclub VIP host is facing up to three years in federal prison for failing to report velvet rope tips as income.
Ali "Shawn" Olyaie pleaded guilty Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Las Vegas to filing a false federal individual income tax return for 2006.
U.S. District Court Judge Kent Dawson scheduled sentencing June 29.
IRS Special Agent Paul Camacho said Thursday that Olyaie failed to report cash received from pooled tips from patrons of Pure Nightclub at Caesars Palace.
Olyaie’s lawyer didn’t immediately respond to a message Thursday.
Camacho noted that another former Pure Nightclub VIP host, Richard Chu, pleaded guilty in November to the same charge. Chu is due for sentencing May 11.
