Gusty winds, showers to continue through weekend
Strong winds blew the tar sheeting off from the roof over some classrooms at Manoa Elementary School. Kindergarten students walked past the roofing debris tthis morning.

Gusty winds are expected to continue through Friday before gradually decreasing through the weekend and the first half of next week.
The National Weather Service continued a statewide wind advisory through tomorrow at 6 p.m. because of winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts of up to 50 mph through passes, valleys and mountain ridges.
The winds may also blow windward showers into leeward areas, forecasters say. Most of the showers are expected at night when there is higher humidity than the afternoons and evenings.
Forecasters say a band of moisture is moving over the islands tonight and tomorrow, bringing a higher chance of showers. Another system could move in Saturday, bringing more showers.
A high surf advisory is in effect for east-facing shores and a small-craft advisory is in effect for coastal waters until 6 a.m. Friday.

Airlines reported severe turbulence yesterday, with one report of extreme low-level turbulence, the weather service said.
