CEO Don Horner announced Friday a donation of $100,000 to establish the Japan-Hawaii Relief Fund. All of the bank’s branches will accept donations until March 31. All contributions will go to the Japanese Red Cross Society.

Horner said Hawaii has always had strong ties with the people of Japan and his hearts and prayers go out to the victims.

The quake spawned a ferocious tsunami, killing hundreds of people Friday as it swept away ships, cars and homes. The tsunami that spread across the Pacific caused little damage in the U.S.

First Hawaiian Bank is the state’s oldest bank with branches throughout Hawaii and Guam.
