New scenic trail open at gardens

HILO » The World Botanical Gardens has opened a new scenic trail suitable for hikers of all experience levels. The one-third-mile trail features easy switchbacks and follows Hanapueo Stream.

The gardens, just north of Hilo, are open daily. Admission is $13 for adults, $6 for teens 13 to 17, $3 for children 5 to 12 and free for children 5 and younger. Zip-line activities are available for an extra charge.

Inn offers free tours of orchard

The Macadamia Meadows Bed & Breakfast, situated halfway between Hilo and Kona on the island of Hawaii, is offering guests complimentary tours of the macadamia nut orchard that surrounds the hotel. The offer is available all year long to visitors interested in the history of the Kau District, believed to be where Polynesians first landed in Hawaii.

The B&B also is offering a three-night special through April 30. Guests who stay in the Macadamia or Papakaleo Green Sand Beach rooms will pay $99 per night plus tax.

Moana Surfrider marks milestone

Waikiki’s Moana Surfrider has scheduled a daylong lineup of festivities on Friday to celebrate its 110th anniversary. The events will be held from 11:11 a.m. to 11:11 p.m., fitting an "Eleven" theme to mark the start of the Moana’s 111th year.

Events will include a historical tour of the hotel, an afternoon tea, half-price cocktails, and wine and food tastings. Musical entertainment will be featured on the Diamond Head lawn from 6:11 to 9:11 p.m. with Amy Hanaiali’i Gilliom, Grammy award-winning slack-key guitarist Jeff Peterson and Chino Montero, and the Kamaka Fernandez Trio.
