A Department of Education worker was seriously injured when he was struck by the tractor he had just stopped operating at a Kalihi school.

Officials said the 49-year-old man was injured about 2:25 p.m. Wednesday along a driveway at Kaewai Elementary School on Kamehameha IV Road.

The man was alert when he was taken to a nearby hospital in serious condition, a spokesman for the city Department of Emergency Services said.

The DOE is investigating the incident, a department spokeswoman said.
