Honolulu begins reconstructing Waikiki sidewalks
HONOLULU » Honolulu begins reconstructing deteriorating sidewalks on Waikiki’s main drag this week.
The $5.5 million project will replace tile with stone on a stretch of Kalakaua Avenue, in line with earlier improvements to Kuhio Beach Park and Kuhio Avenue.
The city said Monday the work will begin on the ocean side of Kalakaua from Saratoga Road to Lewers Street. It will continue on the mountain side of Kalakaua from Pau Street to Liliuokalani Avenue.
The city says the work will help it meet requirements under the Americans with Disabilities Act and allow it to make landscape and electrical system improvements.
The city has hired Kaikor Construction for the work, which is due to be finished by Sept. 30.
