Nothing says aloha like hosting deposed dictators

Is there a niche tourism market in Hawaii that hasn’t been explored lately?

If we can stomach it, there is one: deposed despots.

Hey, even people as reviled as Tunisia’s Zine El Abidine Ben Ali and Egypt’s Hosni Mubarak might want a place to vacation, especially if they’ve been driven from their presidential palaces. In Libya, Moammar Gadhafi is vowing to fight to the end, but he, too, might soon want to check out Hawaii.

Book them all into the most expensive hotel suites and make sure they pay their room service bills, which are sure to be hefty. Then send them on their way — wherever that might be. These guests don’t need to be long-term, like Ferdinand Marcos was. Been there, done that. 

Pizza Power prevails

If you think the Madison, Wis., sit-in is a strictly domestic protest, think again.

Solidarity against "The Man" knows no geographic bounds, as evidenced by the international flood of pizza calls to feed protesters rallying to retain their full collective bargaining rights.

Agree with the unionized workers or with budget-crunching Gov. Scott Walker — the pizza feeding frenzy has been amazing to watch. Politico.com reports that the "countries donating" to sit-in deliveries include callers from Egypt (no doubt feeling kinship after toppling the government there), Korea, Finland, New Zealand, Denmark, Australia, Canada, Germany, China, England, the Netherlands, Turkey, Switzerland and Italy — plus all 50 U.S. states.

Yes, indeed: Power to the people — and pizza, too.
