Wahine fall flat against Wolf Pack

Confidence from a two-game home winning streak couldn’t translate into road success for the Hawaii women’s basketball team.

The Rainbow Wahine were dealt their most lopsided loss of the Western Athletic Conference season, a 69-42 decision against Nevada last night at the Lawlor Events Center in Reno, Nev.

UH (8-16, 2-9 WAC) dropped into a tie with Boise State for eighth place with five regular-season games remaining. The last-place school among nine WAC teams is left home from the WAC tournament in Las Vegas next month.

Futility away from Honolulu continues for Dana Takahara-Dias’ Wahine, who shot a dismal 23.3 percent from the field — including 15.2 percent in the second half — and lost their 18th straight WAC road game going back to 2008-09. Their point total was one off their season low.

Senior guard Megan Tinnin led UH with 11 points off the bench in just 15 minutes. No starter scored in double figures.

The Wahine, who trailed by nine points at halftime, were outscored 37-19 in the second half. Nevada (17-7, 6-5) was dominant in the paint (a 32-16 scoring advantage) and on second-chance points (17-7).

Wolf Pack guard Tahnee Robinson, the WAC’s second-leading scorer, scored a game-high 24 points on 9-for-21 shooting and grabbed eight rebounds. She put in a combined 50 points in two wins over UH over the last 13 days. Forward Kayla Williams added 12 points and 11 rebounds last night.

The Wahine continue their three-game road trip on Tuesday at New Mexico State (10-13, 4-5) and conclude it on Thursday at league-leading Louisiana Tech (18-5, 10-0).
