Ma’a, Santi named All-Americans

Kamehameha junior hitter Misty Ma’a and Punahou senior setter Ali Santi have been named to PrepVolleyball.com’s High School All-American Girls Volleyball Team.

Ma’a and Santi both were named to the Star-Advertiser’s all-state Fab 15, with Ma ‘a named player of the year. The two helped their respective teams to the state championship match in November, with Ma’a earning MVP honors and the Warriors the title.

Santi has committed to play for Georgia Tech next season.

HPU cruises in tennis

Hawaii Pacific won both its men’s and women’s tennis matches yesterday at the Paseo Tournament in Glendale, Ariz.

The Sea Warrior men blanked Dallas Baptist 9-0, with No. 1 Petr Michnev and No. 6 Wilhelm Irwe shutting out their respective opponents 6-0, 6-0. Zora Vickoa dropped just one set at No. 1 in leading the Sea Warrior women past Dallas Baptist 8-1.

Wahine fall on road

Alyssa Nafarrete won at No. 5 singles for Hawaii’s lone point as the Rainbow Wahine (3-5) dropped its third consecutive road match yesterday, falling to No. 43 Long Beach State 6-1 at Long Beach, Calif.

Chaminade splits in softball

Chaminade scores six runs in the second inning — highlighted by Melissa Harris’ two-run double — and the Silverswords hung on for a 6-5 win over Azusa Pacific in yesterday’s first game of a nonconference doubleheader at Central Oahu Regional Park.

In the nightcap, the Cougars (5-5) came back to shut out the Silverswords (3-2) 9-0.

Ex-Warriors at speed clinics

Former University of Hawaii football players Nate Ilaoa, Kenny Patton and Leonard Peters are the featured instructors for the Hawaii Speed and Quickness clinics at Radford High School Gym.

The clinics are held Sundays through July 24.

Sessions for ages 5 to 9 are from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. Sessions for 10 and older are from 9 a.m. to 10:15 a.m.

Each session is $10.
