Fire crews pluck stricken hiker off Olomana trail
A hiker was rescued off the Olomana Trail this morning.
The man, in his 40s, began complaining of neck pains and was unable to hike out alone, said fire Capt. Earle Kealoha of the Honolulu Fire Department.
Firefighters helped place him onto a basket tied to the HFD helicopter, which transported him to Maunawili District Park around 9:46 a.m., Kealoha said.
The man was taken by paramedics to a hospital in serious condition with undisclosed injuries, a spokesperson for the city Department of Emergency Services said.
Two other hikers with the man made it back out of the trail on their own.
