Driver arrested for allegedly hitting pedestrians and causing chain-reaction crash
A 21-year-old soldier was arrested over the weekend after he allegedly hit two girls and caused a four-vehicle chain reaction collision in Waialua.
The man was booked on suspicion of drunken driving and two counts of first-degree negligent injury. He was released pending investigation.
Police said the man hit the two girl pedestrians on Farrington Highway near Ku Place about 2:40 a.m. Saturday.
A crowd of people gathers and an altercation occurs with the driver, police said. The man tried to flee, but hit an empty vehicle down the road, police said. The crash caused a chain-reaction collision with three parked vehicles.
The girls were taken to the hospital by a private vehicle in good condition, but later were found to have serious and substantial injuries.
