Showers and high surf are in the Sunday forecast.

The National Weather Service says a cold front is moving down the island chain that will bring scattered showers this afternoon and isolated showers tonight.

The forecast however still calls for partly sunny skies and breezy west winds.

Forecasters say the front may stall over the Big Island tonight and could bring thundershowers.

Forecasters issued a high surf warning starting at midnight until for north and west shores of Kauai and Niihau and for north shores on Oahu, Molokai and Maui. Waves with faces of 20 to 25 feet are expected.

A storm passing north of the islands generated surf that should start building tonight through tomorrow. The warning is in effect until 6 a.m. Tuesday.

A stronger cold front is moving in from the northwest, foresters say. That system should bring southeasterly winds, and perhaps vog on Friday and Saturday. It is predicted to move over the islands Saturday night and Sunday.
