Waikiki man arrested after getting stuck in trash chute following altercation

Police arrested a 46-year-old Waikiki man who got stuck in a trash chute Thursday morning while trying to escape capture.

Police said the man got into an altercation with one of his roommates, a 70-year-old man, at their seventh-floor apartment on 1717 Ala Wai Blvd. While he escaped and called police, the suspect allegedly threatened a second roommate, a 69-year-old man.

When officers arrived at the scene about 1:30 a.m., the man dashed onto the balcony, scaled several stories, and then made his way into a trash chute.

He got stuck and firefighters had to retrieve him. Police arrested him around 4:15 a.m. He was being held by police pending charges of abuse of a household member, kidnapping and terroristic threatening
