Hanabusa seated on military and land panels
U.S. Rep. Colleen Hanabusa has been appointed to House committees that handle military and environmental policies.
Hanabusa, who just started her first term representing Hawaii’s 1st Congressional District, was named by fellow House Democrats to the Armed Services Committee and its readiness and oversight subcommittees.
A statement from her office said last week that she is the lone freshman Democrat to be named to the armed serv-ices panel.
Hanabusa also will sit on the House Natural Resources Committee, which handles environmental, public lands and American Indian issues.
Three-term Democratic Rep. Mazie Hirono of the 2nd Congressional District remains a member of committees that oversee education and labor, and transportation issues.
Hawaii GOP Chairman Jonah Kaauwai released a statement noting that Hanabusa did not secure a seat on the Appropriations Committee, a possibility that U.S. Sen. Daniel Inouye raised during the campaign.
