Two shelters for flood victims are still open this morning — at the Kihei Community Center on Maui and another at the Waianae District Park on Oahu.

Overnight, eight people took refuge in the Kihei shelter; while 21 people sought shelter at the Waianae facility.

The fire department also reported that it responded to 23 weather related calls dealing with downed trees and electrical lines and flooding conditions between midnight and 4 p.m. yesterday.

These included 10 cases where people had to be evacuated from rising waters in Ewa Beach, Kapolei and Waianae and one reported of a fallen tree.

In Laie, Hauula, Kaawa, Kaneohe, Kailua and Waiamanlo, firefighters responded 2 cases of downed trees and 3 involving downed electrical lines.

There also was one reported case of downed electrical lines in central Oahu.

Firefighters responded to 5 alarm calls involving downed electrical lines in the Aiea, Pearl City and Kahala area and one report of a downed tree in the same area yesterday.
