BYUH’s Wagner notches 400th win

Tsung-Hsien Chang’s 18 points helped Brigham Young-Hawaii coach Ken Wagner earn his 400th men’s basketball win in a 75-64 victory over Dominican last night at Cannon Activities Center.

Wagner is 400-184 in 21 seasons with the Seasiders (8-4, 3-0 Pac West), who also got 16 points and eight rebounds from Marques Whippy.

Killian Larson scored a team-high 13 points for Dominican (0-13, 0-3).

Frazier scores 14 as Hawaii Pacific wins big

Nick Frazier led three Sea Warriors in double figures with 14 points to lead Hawaii Pacific to a 78-60 men’s basketball victory over Academy of Art last night at the Blaisdell Arena.

Kyle Allen added 13 points and Royal Edwards 11 for the Sea Warriors (5-8), who outscored the Urban Knights (3-10) 42-23 in the first half.

Dominican rallies past Brigham Young-Hawaii

Brigham Young-Hawaii’s 21-0 run in the second half wasn’t enough last night as Dominican rallied for a 65-61 Pacific West Conference women’s basketball victory at Laie.

Zori Drew and Madison Kita each scored 14 points for the Seasiders (1-10, 0-3), who trailed 42-23 2 minutes into the second half. Richelle Rieben’s jumper with 9:34 left put BYUH ahead 44-42 and the Seasiders held a 61-57 lead with 3:44 to go.

The Penguins (3-11, 1-2) used an 8-0 run to pull out their first conference win of the year.

Sea Warriors top Urban Knights

Jazzmin Awa-Williams scored 15 points and Mana Hopkins-Vandenakker added 14 to lead Hawaii Pacific to its seventh consecutive victory, 74-61 over Academy of Art at Blaisdell Arena.

Melody Ladrido added 10 points and Courtney Buster 11 rebounds for the Sea Warriors (8-3, 2-0) against the Urban Knights (4-9, 2-2).

Mariota is Gatorade player of year

Saint Louis senior quarterback Marcus Mariota is the Hawaii Gatorade football player of the year.

Mariota led the Crusaders to the ILH and state titles this past season, and was named the Star-Advertiser offensive player of the year.

Mariota also has a 3.6 grade-point average and has orally committed to play for national runner-up Oregon.

"I am delighted for Marcus. It is well deserved. Equally impressive is the fine example he displays in the classroom, on campus and in the community," Saint Louis principal Pat Hamamoto said.
