Vulcans win again

Justin Smith scored 22 points to lead Hawaii-Hilo over Westminister (Mo.) in a nonconference men’s basketball game last night, 77-55 at UHH gym.

Dirk Snel added nine points, all on 3-pointers, for the Vulcans (8-3). Joe James and Adam Mallette led the Blue Jays (5-5) with nine points.

Last night’s runaway was quite a contrast from Wednesday’s victory, which saw the Vulcans rally from a 12-point deficit late to pull out a 74-73 win over Concordia (Mich.).

Sea Warriors snap skid

Adrian den Dulk scored 16 points to lead five Hawaii Pacific players in double figures as the Sea Warriors men’s basketball team snapped a six-game losing streak last night, 77-74, over Concordia (Mich.).

Royal Edwards came off the bench for 15 points for the Sea Warriors (4-7). Marius Williams led the Cardinals (8-7) with 24 points.

UH men’s Volleyfest set

The University of Hawaii men’s volleyball team will host the Ohana Volleyfest immediately following the men’s basketball game against Boise State on Jan. 8 at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Admission to the Volleyfest is free. Fans not attending the basketball game will be allowed into the arena near the conclusion of the Western Athletic Conference contest.

Volleyfest includes the introduction of this season’s team, featuring All-America honorees Joshua Walker and Jonas Umlauft; a fastest serve contest and bounce-meter for the highest bounce of the volleyball. An autograph session concludes the event.
