Salas chooses agent Zuckerman
Former Hawaii slotback Greg Salas took the first step toward a professional football career yesterday, signing with agent Kenny Zuckerman of Priority Sports & Entertainment.
"I’m impressed with the people he represents, and I felt really comfortable with him," Salas said.
Salas had narrowed the finalists to three. He met with each Monday in his home in Ontario, Calif., then chose Zuckerman yesterday.
Zuckerman also represents former UH players Davone Bess of the Miami Dolphins, Ryan Mouton of the Tennessee Titans, Isaac Sopoaga of the San Francisco 49ers, Wayne Hunter and Brashton Satele of the New York Jets, and David Veikune of the Denver Broncos.
"Greg has the ‘it’ factor," Zuckerman said. "Most Hawaii players don’t get on the scene until the postseason. Having the stage at the Senior Bowl is going to be really big."

Instead, he has started a rehabilitation program on his left knee. He said he hopes to heal in time to audition for pro scouts in the coming months. Pilares said he is meeting with two agents this week. Star-Advertiser staff

Salas said he will begin training Monday with Athletes Performance at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. Salas will live in an extended-stay hotel in Manhattan Beach, Calif., during his training.
He will work out through the week preceding the Jan. 29 Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala.
Zuckerman said Salas is a "shoo-in" to be invited to the NFL Scouting Combine in February in Indianapolis.
After that, he will train for UH’s Pro Day in early April at the Home Depot Center.
Zuckerman said scouts have told him that Salas is considered one of the five best senior receivers eligible for the draft. But Salas’ predicted draft status will not be determined until after Jan. 15, the deadline for juniors to declare for the NFL Draft.
Juniors with first-round potential are Michael Floyd of Notre Dame, Julio Jones of Alabama, Jon Baldwin of Pittsburgh, Randall Cobb of Kentucky, Juron Criner of Arizona and Torrey Smith of Maryland. Smith already has said he will apply for the draft.
Zuckerman is confident Salas will impress NFL scouts.
"I like his competitive nature," Zuckerman said. "After he dropped a punt (in the Hawaii Bowl), he tried to put the team on his back. He felt very obligated to pull them back into the game. He’s a winner. He’s extremely coachable and extremely grounded. I expect big things from the guy at the next level."
