Light tradewinds are back at least for today — meaning a mostly sunny Christmas Eve for Hawaii Bowl fans and players, the vacationing president and other tourists, and last-minute shoppers trying to get to the malls.

But, forecasters warn, the air is still moist and that means the chance of afternoon showers.

"I think we’ll be OK," said Tim Craig, a National Weather Service forecaster. "There may be a shower or two, but nothing organized, no heavy rain."

A cold front is also approaching the state from the northwest and that will mean a change in winds from northeast tradewinds to southerly winds by Christmas Day, forecasters said.

The sun should still be out on Christmas Day, but the weather will be humid and the moist air means the chance of more afternoon showers, Craig said.

The approaching front will bring partly cloudy skies on Sunday.

Rain is forecast for Monday and probably the rest of the week, Craig said.

The weather service issued a flood potential outlook because of the possibility of heavy rain on Oahu and Kauai starting Sunday night through Tuesday.
