Two of Hawaii’s — and Hilo’s — finest and most amiable golfers will be inducted into the Hawaii Golf Hall of Fame on Jan. 14 at the third annual Ho’olaule’a Awards. Pros Kevin Hayashi and Greg Meyer will become the 64th and 65th members of the Hall, which was created to "perpetuate the history of golf in Hawaii."

The awards celebration begins at 6 p.m. at Honolulu Country Club and also will recognize 22 more of the state’s top players and industry leaders, from juniors to course superintendents.

Hayashi, 48, made his first Sony cut last year, in his ninth start. He will be honored as the Aloha Section’s player of the year for the eighth time at the Ho’olaule’a and also is the 2010 teacher of the year. He has won every major Hawaii tournament but the Mid-Pacific Open and has three Hawaii State Open titles.

Meyer, 49, has played on the Japan pro tour more than 20 years and earned more than $2 million. He was the 1999 Aloha Section player of the year and a four-time Hawaii Pearl Open champ.
